Last year, Syfy unleashed another B-movie (and that’s a generous grade) epic onto the world when Sharknado hit the small screen. Twitter blew up for two hours at the horror of it all, reveling in the Syfy-tradition that is the cheesy special effects, cringe-worthy dialogue, over-acting, and ridiculous plotlines. It was a phenomenon. It had a night IN THEATERS. And it’s even getting Riffed LIVE July 10th and 15th. And now the trailer for the next installment has hit the web, exclusively from Fandango:
The Mostly Average Take:
-Guest stars, guest stars, GUEST STARS. Are you seeing these cameos? Matt Lauer, Judd Hirsch, Andy Dick, Robert Klein, and tons of other pesudo-celebrities are showing up in this sequel. In fact, if you check out the IMDB page, you’ll see even MORE pop-in’s from the likes of Kelly Osbourne, Al Roker, Billy Ray Cyrus, and even wrestler Kurt Angle. This thing is loaded with C-level talent.
-But that’s even aside from the main cast! Most of which is returning for this money-making venture. Ian Ziering leads the way with some god-awful acting, which is equaled by the twitch-filled might of Tara Reid. But hey, Vivica A. Fox is here this time around! And Mark McGrath (the dude that used to front that one band) and Kari Wuhrer (the best part of Eight Legged Freaks) play Martin and Ellen Brody. Yep. Just like the Brody’s in JAWS.
-In addition to the “stellar” cast of “talent,” it looks like we’re getting more of those “dynamic” “special effects” we’ve come to know and love from these Syfy flicks. More totally ridiculous kills, most of which will involve a fish flying at someone’s face, which is how I prefer my airborne predators hunt. And of course, this movie wouldn’t be complete without a repeat of Ziering’s flying-chainsaw-shark-slice.
Sharknado will premiere on the SyFy Channel Wednesday, July 30th, as part of their “Sharknado Week,” which will also see the premieres of surefire classics Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda (Sharktopus LIVES) and Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark alongside replays of basically every terrible shark movie SyFy has ever made. This will pretty much be the best week in the history of my existence. How are you feeling? ARE YOU READY FOR THE FLYING SHARKS AT YOUR FACE?
